Library History

The Port Chester-Rye Brook Public Library was founded in 1876 by the Honorable Jared V. Peck.   Fifty years later, the Library building was dedicated in its present location at Haseco and Westchester Avenues.  An Addition, built in 1967, increased our floor space by 9,000 square feet. The library is funded by the Villages of Port Chester and Rye Brook and serves an active population of 36,469.

The mission of the Port Chester-Rye Brook Public Library, serving the Villages of Port Chester and Rye Brook, is to provide free access to information, materials, programs and technology to meet the educational, recreational, and cultural needs and interests of our communities. The Library strives to educate, inform, enrich and entertain. It seeks to engender a love of reading, to encourage curiosity and to instill a joy of learning in patrons of all ages. The Library recognizes, appreciates and embraces the diversity of its patrons and provides environments and resources that respect this diversity.
